As part of the Louisiana Purchase Bicentennial Series in Louisiana History, New Orleans and Urban Louisiana presents selections on the finest historical scholarship written about Louisiana cities during the last fifty years. Using a chronological format, Part A features the period between the early 1770s and the late 1850s; Part B concentrates on the period from the outbreak of the Civil War to the end of the First World War; and Part C focuses on the 1920s to the present. The selections within these volumes address many different aspects of urban life, including geography, politics, economics, architecture, culture, technology, reform, religion, ethnicity, and race relations. The volumes also consider important people, events, and institutions that affected the lives of urban residents.
